Life’s a comic book!

These are GREAT!! We have been turning narrative writing into comics by breaking them into important parts, illustrating them with stick figures, then with pictures, THEN turning them into ballads! Some great work here everyone. Really impressed with those who managed to finish their comics.

Meet “Killer”

This is pretty much one of the neatest things I have seen since I have been teaching!!! Room 5 have recently taken part in a virtual field trip to Antarctica and prior to their field trip one of the members of their class actually flew down there to see what its like!!! Above are pictures taken of him visiting Scott base and hanging out with the locals (hopefully not eating too many penguins!!) Can you see him in the pictures???

A really HUGE thanks to those in Scott Base who showed Killer around and took time out of their busy schedules to speak with the students.  You guys ROCK!!!
These images are thanks to Heurisko Ltd.

Maori Art

One thing you can guarantee when Mr Stoddart visits is that there will be some great creations by the end of the day, and this week was no exception. Using only magazines, a roll of paper and some pastels we created some fantastic maori capes that will go on parade in assembly this week.

Great work on your comics those people who managed to finish them, the ballad writing was particularly impressive from a few of you. I will post some of my favourites on the blog in the next day or two. They are going to sound great in our production. I hope Phillip and Quintin are practising their pegs!

There will be a reward for anyone who can figure out whats behind the WIZ, your guesses aren’t far off so far.

What in the WORLD is Behind WIZ?

You heard the clue, so post your answers here.  Quite easy when you think about it!

Matapu Calf Day

What a fantastic day everyone!  Some excellent creations on display and it was obvious that you have spent lots and LOTS of time grooming your pets.  Congratulations to those who took out the main prizes and to everyone that competed today.

Cake vs Cake

Vote HERE on what cake you like the most!!! Both of these cakes were baked by expert chefs for our calf day, along with some other great creations!

First day in Term 4

Looks like most of us have had some pretty busy holidays.  Congratulations to Krystal who took her dog “Diesal” to the Nationals and finished a very commendable fourth in New Zealand.  Also great to see Taranaki soccer rep Ezekiel have success in their national tournament, finishing 3rd out of around 20 teams entered.  Unfortunately I do not have a photo of him in his kit.

It has been a long two weeks without postings, especially considering the Matapu staff have been in Christchurch looking at some really neat technology.  Some evidence is shown in the photo of me next to my “double”.  I think that we could almost pass as twins!  Some other teachers also got tested to see who they look like, don’t forget to ask Mr Whalley who his double was! We are also going to be closing the polls earlier in the blog on what you eat for breakfast and dinner, so make sure you get your votes in. Remember that you can vote on each poll once a day.

I will start this term with another little puzzle for you all, see who is the quickest to get it right.  In fact, the first one is so easy I am going to give you two to think about.  Look forward to a great term to end this year everyone.

Last week of term 3?

Time: Lunchtime     Place: Matapu School Room 1

Not many teachers have the good fortune to work in a place where the students are as hard working as this!  Great focus this week everyone, amazing to see people spending their lunchtime volunteering to get their work completed, and those E-portfolios look stupendous!!  Can’t wait for you to take them home and show your family what you have been doing in Room 1 this year.  Just a couple more days at school until you all get a well deserved holiday.

From the Mountain to Surf…

Well done all you cross country runners!!  You all did Matapu proud in our Mountain to Surf cross country, great to see all those who ran this year who ran last year improved in their placings.  Great effort everyone.

Those who have finished your menus we (myself and Mrs Ward) have had a good look at them tonight and are very pleased with what you have created.  Some great detail in them, I will have to scan a few to show everyone what you have done.  Super standard.

Well done Mihi for solving the What in the World is Behind WIZ.  It was the carpet in our classroom.  Quintin, you were close with carpet, but I wanted you to be more specific than that.  Look out for the next one, its a doozy!

What did you have for dinner?

Video conferencing

Great work today Room 1, I was extremely impressed with our question time after our a.v experience this morning.  You all retained a LOT of information.  These are pictures of our school having a lesson over the internet, talking to a DOC worker in the South Island with two other schools from around New Zealand.  Look more of this to come hopefully in the future!

Neat writing

Really impressed with some of your handwriting today everyone.  I decided to not just reward one person for your efforts, see if you can pick who’s writing made it to the blog.  For some of you who think you cannot write neatly, this proves that if you take the time you can do it!!

What in the World is Behind WIZ?

It’s back and it’s better than ever!! It’s been a while since we have had a WIZ challenge, and I have added a twist. If you think you know what is behind the WIZ, post your answers on this post.

Since you solved the problem solving question so quickly, I am going to give you another, that means two problem solver winners this week. Good luck with this one!

Its time for a poll!

What did you have for breakfast?
( surveys)

To help out the Green group in maths, lets take a survey!  Do you eat healthy breakfasts?  Do you eat breakfast?  Tick what you have for breakfast in our poll (nice choice of colour and design Quintin).
Great week last week Room 1, excellent to see you all putting in your words for the spelling rule and did you know we used the word “Garrulous” 47 times last week?  You all must have been very garrulous to use the word garrulous so many times!

Well done Alesha who got the puzzle last week, see if you can solve this one…

Running running running…

Good to see everyone pushing themselves hard in our running this afternoon.  Don’t forget to remember how many laps you ran so you can put it into your file tomorrow.

Your challenge for spelling is to find the three exceptions to our spelling rule discussed today.  If you think you know, post your answers on this post.  Also don’t forget to get your Deciding work completed in your theme books.  Remember, the process is just as important as the end result, Mrs Ward is looking forward to trying out your programs!
