Senior class trip to Rotokare

We had a great time at Rotokare yesterday, here are a few pics and comments about just a couple of things we found out.

Huge thanks to the parents who gave up their time to come with us and help out with transport and supervision.  Also a big thankyou to the wonderful staff at Rotokare who guided us through the park.  It was a superb day!!!

A messy staff room inspires amazing writing…

Our staff room at school can have some rather sick days.  This was created from a classroom expedition behind the doors and it inspired some terrific descriptive writing.  Check it out!!!

ANZAC day

We have been looking at what it was like to be a soldier and why we remember ANZAC day in class over the past few days. Some groups have worked really well together!

A swim safe celebration!

We had a visitor this morning who helped us celebrate our great swimming in the first term! We found out kiwis are great dancers!

St Pats day at Matapu

St Pats day was craaaaazy at Matapu!!! Well done to the Councillors who organised everyone to where green, especially since we all know green is the most important colour!!!

Spelling homework reminder

Hi everyone.  Just reminding you all of what you are supposed to do for homework this week…

Those who are still finding words from the back of your book…

  1. You are to choose the next 20 (including the ones you got wrong today) and write them in your spelling book.
  2. Break your words into syllables in your notebook.
  3. You then write them again into your homework book and choose 10 of them to put into sentences.

For those with the word of the week MONOTONE…

  1. You all need to find four words and get with the rest of your group to sort out 20 words (antonyms and synonyms).
  2. Write them in your spelling book, with syllables, and write them into your homework book.
  3. Next to each word write if it is an adjective, verb, adverb or noun, and choose 10 words to write in sentences.
  4. Make sure if you said it was an adjective or adverb in your book, that you use it like that in your sentence.

If you have any questions, make sure you see me before the end of the week, don’t leave it until the weekend!!!

Matapu damage…

Our school wasn’t unscathed either. Still no power here as well…what will we do?

Wild weather!!!

What a wild weekend of weather! We still have no power at home, looks like it will be a few days till we get it *sob*. Really worries me how dependent I am on technology. It’s amazing how many times I went to turn on the lights or tv. Spent all day clearing out driveway, check these out!

School Athletics = mean!!!

Athletics was awesome on Wednesday!!! Super weather and great participants who all gave 100%. Thanks to the parents who came and watched, as well as those who participated in the 12-man relay. Parents still undefeated!!!

Back to the grind…

Camp is over for another year *sigh*.  We all had a great time, even though the weather didn’t behave.  I was really impressed with how our students put themselves out there and took some HUGE responsible risks.  Many thanks to the parents who helped out and thanks to Raukawa for putting on a great week!!!

A baby is born…

You may have noticed that my baby monitor on the right has magically disappeared. It’s because in the holidays my beautiful girl Emily was born!!!

Beach Education…

On Tuesday our senior school went to Opunake Beach for some beach ed.  The lifeguards were fantastic and we all learnt heaps about being safe on the beach, in and out of the water.

WHITE HAT

  • We went to the beach to learn about beach safety
  • There were four life guards
  • Two classrooms in the senior school went on Tuesday, 7th of February
  • We went boogie boarding, rescuing with tubes, wading races, flag sprints and played seaweed with the lifeguards
  • We learnt about sun smart, slip/slop/slap/slide, identifying rips, about flash rips, the ten beach rules and heaps of other stuff

YELLOW HAT

  • Riding fast on the waves while boogie boarding
  • It was fun pulling people and dragging them in the sand during life saving
  • Getting to splash the adults when racing was funny
  • It was funny watching people getting dressed up as life guards and getting undressed real fast
  • Seeing Josh as a ‘sandman’ while running flag races

Welcome back!

Welcome back everyone!!!

Our blog has been a little dormant the past few months (I blame the amazing All Blacks and the shortened terms last year), but we are back with a vengeance!!!

Check out the “What’s coming up?” page to see…well…what’s coming up.
